The River |

Ime Mine
|
| Description: |
It's not really about The River.....well maybe a little bit.
|
| Notes: |
Initially inspired by Samuel Clemens with his love and intrigue for the Mississippi River. As a child I too was in wonder of mystery and massive power of the great river. I spent many a day reading the works of Mark Twain centering his stories around the Mississippi. Samuel Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri very near the childhood homes of my parents and also near their final resting place on a hill overlooking the now Mark Twain Lake. I guess the Salt River is one river that did get controlled as many people do.
The song, as usual for me when making a song evolved into something else. Something about not only the river but about life, the struggles in life and those who try to tell you that you cannot overcome them. Try to confine the Mississippi River and you WILL fail for no Man, No force, No army can hold back it’s mighty flow. And you as well my friends, like the Mississippi you have it in yourselves to do anything that you wish! Well, within reason that is. No you can’t fly.
One further note, In the spirit of inspiration I decided to give another shot at trying to get that illusive feel of “The Boys”. That free two-drummer rhythm and the “who’s got the melody” game between the bass, guitar and the vocals. Threw in a little backup vocals for good measure in the chorus too.
I hope that you enjoy it!

The River
Looking at the world all I have are these kaleidoscopic eyes
It’s hard to tell which way the river flows
I have a ways to go upon my journey
I see across the banks a forest wall- and meadows below
I must cross the river now-it’s wide and deep and old
If I get lost in the current let me go
Once I get there it will be the same as here you see
There’s no escaping marrow in your bones.
-Chorus
No Man, No Force, No Army can defeat the flow of the river
Summons the power in your soul and flow
Like the River
Myopic minds surround me-seeing only what they want to see
They say I cannot cross the river
Though I cannot curve it –or confine it
I will cross it before it turns and laughs at me
The River always finds it’s way- and I find mine
In nature’s harmony we both shall flow
And when you think the world revolves around you-and you alone
Look to the river- let it take you home
-Chorus
